In your Grafana instance, sign in as a user allowed to manage service accounts, then go to Administration → Users and access → Service accounts → Add service account. Open the service account, choose Add service account token, and generate a token. Use that token as Authorization: Bearer <SERVICE_ACCOUNT_TOKEN>. See Service accounts and HTTP API authentication.
Use a Grafana username and password for an on-prem Grafana instance where basic auth is enabled. This is documented for Grafana OSS/Enterprise and for the Grafana MCP server, but Grafana Cloud HTTP API does not allow it. See HTTP API authentication and MCP authentication.
