Sign up for an API key at api.data.gov. The OpenFEC docs state you can also try the API with DEMO_KEY, but for programmatic use you should get your own key. api.data.gov's developer manual says the key can be sent in the X-Api-Key header, the api_key query parameter, or as the HTTP Basic username with an empty password.
